Burgundy Box – A DIY (Do it yourself) Recipe Kit

Being a Mommy

Last weekend I participated in my first ever chef competition organized by Burgundy Box.
Burgundy Box is essentially a concept where you can order prepped & portioned ingredients of a recipe of your choice and then create it in your own kitchen using them. Isn’t it cool???
I wanted to try out the box for some time now and the contest came right in time. It gave me a chance not only to experience the box but also to meet Chef Ajay Chopra of Masterchef fame and the co-founder of Burgundy Box. Needless to say he was the judge for the event 🙂

BurgunDIY August Chef Experience

On the day of the event, all participants were delivered a box of similar “surprise” ingredients and they had to create a dish using them. A maximum of 2 additional ingredients were allowed outside the box to make the dish. The box was…

The art of cooking

Chef Simone Ciuffetelli

I feel lucky to live in Dockland because I have a possibility to see every day the sea, yatchs and fishermen.

Every morning pass to the harbour it make me dream…. new dishes, new ingredients and new combinations.

In these days I have been inspiration from two nice ingredients: calamari and snapper and……

after a long week, today, I’ ve got a day off and I decided to make two new dishes:

An entree and a main.

Grilled Calamaro, celeriac cream, crispy fennel and pickled orange Grilled snapper, rosemary smashed potatoes amd spicy cupsicum emulsion

I had a dinner at home with my girfriend Roberta who accompanies me in all my path and my flatmate who loves food.

Jamming with the Food Trucks

Middle Eats

This weekend the TruckersDxb held the first Food Truck Jam at Emirates Golf Club, the whole event was highly anticipated and I knew it was going to be incredibly busy and I had my doubts about the organisation, given the MixTape Rewind debacles.

We arrived at around 5:30pm, the brunch had finished and the free entry began. The grass was already quite busy and the parking was pretty hectic (perhaps next time advise guests to use public transport given the very limited availability). An old Chevy parked at the gate and 10 food trucks dotted around a central seating area twinned with the twinkling lights strung between trucks and over blankets, makeshift wooden palette tables and the acoustic sounds of local musicians made for a laid back evening with kids running around, laughing and playing, friends enjoying shisha and of course plenty of food.

In theory the whole event was…

Monday Morning Mail Art Call: MEALART

Trash Bubbles and Life's Little Bits

mealartszines

Drawn to this mail art call by its colorful advertisement, I couldn’t help but begin brainstorming ideas.

Everyone eats. Lots of people love food. Foodies are everywhere. Facebook and Instagram are filled with snapshots of our meals, both the mundane and the extraordinary.

Why not give your hand a try at creating a piece of MEALART? What kind of GASTRO delight can you concoct? The possibilities are as endless as the sheer volume of recipes throughout the world.

Confession: the pun-lover in me finds tremendous joy in that this international mail art call originates in Hungary. Giggle, giggle! 😀

Be sure to check back next Monday morning for more in my new series, Monday Morning Mail Art Call. My hope is that you will find calls that inspire you to create, to participate in the continuing global phenomenon that is mail art.

Happy Trash to you, until we meet again!

Culinary Events: First Annual Cheese Festival in Basel

CUISINE HELVETICA

A festival dedicated entirely to Swiss cheese seemed like a good way to spend a Saturday morning, so I hopped a train to Basel to check it out last month. If you enjoy sampling cheese and having the opportunity to talk to and purchase directly from local producers, then here’s a brief summary of my visit (including the beer fondue!), as well as information about other cheese events coming up in Switzerland this year. cheese festival basel 2016

Käsefest Basel 2016

Sponsored by Trägerverein cheese-fesitval, an association that promotes Swiss cheese, this one-day festival in Basel took place at the Markthalle, (home to lots of interesting food vendors, so I hope to return there soon!). It’s located within walking distance of the main train station.

After admiring the wheels of cheese just outside the door, I stepped into the hall and eagerly approached the various booths to sample different cheeses in various…
